DULUX COLOUR OF THE YEAR LAUNCH SETS THE TONE FOR NEW DESIGNERS

DULUX COLOUR OF THE YEAR LAUNCH

Spiced Honey™ is the new 2019 Colour of the Year, supported by four new colour palettes from the UK's leading paint brand Dulux Trade, designed to transform every space, from commercial to healthcare and education to residential. We are excited to see how designers across multiple creative disciplines interpret this colour in their projects over the coming months, and we're confident that there will be as many innovative applications as there was with Heart Wood, the Colour of the Year for 2018.

The thought process behind Spiced Honey came from looking back at 2018 as an unsettling time, triggered by global events causing people to close up, retreat and regroup. However, as society looks forward to 2019, they're now ready to let the light back in and the mood is centred around a feeling of optimism with a renewed sense of energy and purpose to make a positive change and impact on the world.

The ColourFutures™ palettes offer a beautiful range of colours that all designers can be assured will remain contemporary and deliver impact over several years. Additionally, we use the Dulux Colour of the Year and supporting palettes to help young designers to feel more confident using colour in their work. This year, Spiced Honey™ will take centre stage in our plans to support new designers over the next 12 months. https://www.duluxtradepaintexpert.co.uk/en/colours/collections/colour-futures-2019

Colour in Design Awards - Nurtures emerging colour and design innovators

The second year of the Colour in Design awards collected another rich haul of talent at the New Designers show this year. Marianne Shillingford, Dulux Creative Director and founder of the awards celebrating innovative use of colour, lead an expert judging panel to find outstanding examples of colour used across many design disciplines at the show. See the Colour in Design award winner for 2018 https://www.colourindesignaward.org/single-post/2018/06/28/2018-winner---Diane-Bresson.

Dulux Trade supports the Colour in Design awards which offers mentoring and commercial support to the overall winner, and those acknowledged as promising 'ones to watch' for the coming year. The awards help these new designers to make important industry links, initially connecting them with the panel of judges who are able to provide practical advice about establishing themselves in business, whilst providing a platform to share their work across the spectrum of UK and international organisations.

At the show, as well as running two Dulux colour workshops, Marianne also commissioned a display that showcased how Heart Wood™ and the supporting colour palettes could be reimagined using different surface materials, supporting the theme of Wellbeing Outcomes Promoted Through Design. She set the challenge to previous award winners to help bring the theme to life, with the aim of inspiring new designers to adopt design centred on occupant wellbeing and sustainability at the core of their response to a design brief. The results were impressive.

Jim Biddulph, Materials and Interiors expert has been working with Dulux ColourFutures™ trends for many years, using them to support and encourage young design talent to be more confident working with colour. As curator of this display which proved to be hugely popular at the show this summer, he successfully combined Heart Wood™ with natural and recycled materials, illustrating how thoughtful application of colour has the power to advance wellbeing outcomes for building occupants. https://youtu.be/9NxUJsWRDXg

Dulux Creative Director, Marianne Shillingford, says: "I love the sense of positivity that the trends offer. "For 2019, Spiced Honey is the stand-out shade that perfectly captures the mood of the moment, developed for our customers' sense of awakening and new fresh mood. We are looking forward to working with new designers of the future to help us deliver that change"
