Our partner, charity Volunteer It Yourself was established to give young people – many at risk of disengagement or exclusion from mainstream education – the training they need to develop trades skills. And their mentors? They’re local professional tradespeople like you, guiding young volunteers from the ages of 14 to 24 as they put new skills into practice while they repair and refurbish local youth and community facilities. See how you can pass on your knowledge for good by teaching a new generation your trade.

In Coventry, for instance, a VIY team of mentors and young volunteers successfully refurbished a music venue – and even built a new stage -  for The Tin, a charity that provides music training for teenagers. Another VIY team improved the disabled facilities at iconic pub and venue The Dublin Castle in Camden, London. And we also put the leftover paint from the second series of Changing Rooms to good use in Trowbridge, working with VIY volunteers and mentors to transform the day-to-day spaces in a residential centre for young adults at risk of homelessness.

In the past two years, Dulux has worked with VIY and our support has enabled the transformation of 97 community projects and enabled over 900 young people gain trade accreditations.

Since 1996, we’ve been supporting CRASH, a charity which channels professional expertise, construction products and donations from the construction industry into transforming hostels, day centres, night shelters and move-on accommodation. Dulux’s donated products and coatings have contributed to vital construction projects that will help provide for some of the country’s most vulnerable people.

The Old English sheepdog has been Dulux’s mascot for over half a century, and naturally we’ve got a soft spot for this gorgeous, fluffy, clever breed. We’re proud to support Old English Sheepdogs Rescue and Welfare, which rehabilitates and re-homes dogs that have been abused or abandoned.

Another one of our long-term charity partnerships is with the Outward Bound Trust. For 15 years, we’ve helped to fund this educational charity that takes young, often disadvantaged, people on outdoor adventures to help them change their perspective and improve their resilience and confidence.
