Supporting your Communities

This year we introduced a new initiative that allowed us to utilise the skills and generosity of Dulux Select Decorators to give back to your local communities. Designed to bring together groups of Select Decorators to make a long lasting difference to projects close to your heart, we asked you all to put forward your suggestions.

From these we selected a project at Letchworth Rugby Club, put forward by David Cooper. David has been actively involved with the club for 41 years, starting out as a player aged 11 and now serving as Vice President and Coach so this work was very important to David.

He was recently part of a large project to extend and upgrade the club facilities. Unfortunately this project was cut short due to a lack of time and funds, leaving the clubhouse, the central part of the club, seriously neglected. David had taken the lead on all painting and decorating aspects of this project so he was determined to see it through, with a little help from Dulux Trade and some Select Decorators!

The club is an integral part of the Letchworth community and utilised for a wide range activities from rugby for those ageg 6 to 56 to pilates classes and even wedding receptions. In a typical week you can expect to see 500 people passing through so David was keen to provide the club with a quality finish that would last by using the super durable Dulux Trade Diamond Matt range:

"Letchworth Rugby Club welcomes all people. Due to such high usage of the internal facilities, maintenance is key to provide a bright clean environment where people can feel at home, so durability of wall covering is key. Due to the nature of rugby there are a lot of muddy persons who would mar the interior so a covering of Diamond Matt would be ideal."

Over the course of the two day project David was joined by Select Decorators including Roy Basten, Mike Poole, Marek Nowicki and Mark Dockerill and their teams, who all generously gave up their time. The large space meant the decorators were up against it but thanks to their fantastic efforts, the project was completed in time.

David was left humbled by the selflessness and camaraderie of his fellow Decorators:

"Over the two days of decoration there were a total of 10 Select Decorators giving their time for free to help me and my club out. I was overwhelmed with the generosity of the time given by the boys and met some great people. Letchworth Rugby Club looks great and I thank all those who gave their time. If you pass by, come in for a beer!"

We'll be sharing more of the finished results from this project in your next newsletter but if this has got you thinking about your own social community project, there's still chance to get a team of Dulux Select Decorators to help make your communities plans a reality! Simply submit your project details by to Duluxselectdecorators@diversity.agency.
