Experiencing the Dulux Academy

We love to hear about your experiences at the Dulux Academy so, after receiving a review on our Facebook page, we got in touch with decorator Chris Bone, to find out more about his time on the 'Introduction to Spray Application' course.

We offer a range of spray courses at Dulux Academy, tailored to decorators at all levels of experience. The first of these is our 'Introduction of Spray Application'. Targeted at those new to spray, this course offers a thorough foundation and is ideal for anyone in need of a knowledge refresh or like Chris, looking to gain a new skill.

Chris has been a professional decorator for over 19 years and founded his company, Paintworks, 11 years ago. He chose to attend this course after deciding it was time to learn something new and open up more opportunities for his business.

"After being on the brush and roller for that long, day in and day out, I was starting to lose my drive a bit and knew I needed to learn a new skill. Not only a skill I would benefit from but a new skill my customers would benefit from too."

This course introduces you to a variety of both airless and HVLP spray units all of which are provided by the industry's leading provider, Graco. Chris was particularly impressed by this, describing both the facilities and equipment at Dulux Academy as "unbelievable". During the day Chris was able to develop his masking and spray application techniques using this premium equipment.

Tony Pearson-Young led the course and Chris told us he couldn't recommend him enough. Before joining the Dulux Academy, Tony worked as a painter and decorator for thirty years, receiving plenty of awards and accreditations during this time. Chris felt this experience and understanding of the trade definitely came across during the day.

"I've done other courses elsewhere in the past and found them to be very intense but not with him, he had everyone joking and bonding in no time. In my eyes this is how a course should be - learning with a bit of banter in the mix. We are decorators at the end of the day!"

Our priority with any of the courses at Dulux Academy is to ensure the knowledge you gain from your visit continues to benefit you after you leave. Something we're pleased to see has definitely been the case with Chris.

"I came away with the confidence to spray after just one course. I've completed 4 jobs so far using spray application since I did the course. So, making that time in the end, really did pay off."
