Full Marks For Historic School Building Transformation
A Grade II listed school building in Hampshire has had an upgrade thanks to the Dulux Trade team.
Purbrook Park School dates back to 1839 when it was built by the Deverell family. Although the school has been extended with state-of-the-art facilities over the years, the exterior has seen many generations of students passing through and needed an upgrade.
Hampshire County Council requested the help of Dulux Trade who were on hand to advise on the choice of colour, together they selected a tasteful colour scheme that embraced the building’s rich heritage. The resulting scheme blended cream and earthy hues, Chalk Coast, Oxford Blue, Warm Ash and Grey Tweed in Weathershield Masonry Paint, Weathershield Exterior Gloss and Undercoat, to give a more modern, fresh feel.
Ideal for creating character and delivering a strong identity to a range of education buildings, from primary schools to universities, Dulux Trade Weathershield transforms exteriors with a durable, quality finish.
Due to the historical status of the building, Hampshire County Council provided an on-site conservation officer - who, despite stringent requirements, was happy that the new colours remained in-keeping with the school’s history.
The work, completed by contract partners Mitie Fareham, took approximately six weeks from start to finish.
A spokesperson from Hampshire County Council said: "The school and everyone linked to it are so pleased with the final result.
Reds and Terracottas
North-facing properties would benefit best from warm reds, oranges and terracottas, as these shades will help counteract the weak, blue-tinged light of a north-facing aspect. Contrast a lighter peachy shade with a rich darker shade for a harmonising shade with depth, such as Burnt Cherry and Almost Apricot. Sounds good enough to eat…
"The colour choices worked so well - we're delighted with how it looks. It has kept the look of the school in-keeping with the era it was first built as well as making sure it is looking fresh and clean."
Paul Fleming, marketing manager contractor specifier of Dulux Trade said: “With Purbrook Park School, we have been able to take an old, but cherished Grade II listed building and bring it into the modern era with the clever use of colour - whilst still satisfying the heritage and conservation needs. We were thrilled to be involved and it really gave us a chance to showcase the services we can provide through the quality product and colour ranges we supply.”
