The 2017 Smarter Spaces competition is now closed and we are pleased to announce the two winning schools, both of which will be rewarded with a Smarter Spaces makeover worth £10,000.
Lawley Primary School, Telford
Lawley Primary School will be transforming their main entrance area and corridor into a bright, inspiriring area, filled with imagery of Telford's historical past.
Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre
Highdown School will bring what is currently a dark and dreary art and photography room "back to life", creating an environement that inspires students through the use of contrasting bright walls and old fashioned picture frames. The makeover will also include a gallery wall to showcase and encourage the brilliant work produced by pupils.
As part of their prize, both of the winning schools recieved a surprise visit from the internationally famous Dulux Dog and Matthew Burton, star of TV's Educating Yorkshire and ambassador for the campaign also making a visit to Highdown School.
Matthew said: "I really support the concept of learner-led design as I believe children are much more likely to be engaged if they have a bright and colourful space that they've had some element of creative control over. I look forward to seeing the finished results!"
We'd like to say a huge thank you to every school that participated in the competition this year. All the runners up will receive a £200 Dulux Decorator Centre voucher to help improve their school environment.
