Last month on May 14 - 15th 2016, 2000 riders including a 220-strong Dulux Trade team assembled in our capital to conquer a 189 mile bike challenge over an impressive two days.

The Select members joining the Dulux Trade team this year were Lesley Prowse, Martin Connor and Davide Renna. They were also joined by Select staff members Jamie Barber, Simon Elliott and Sam Lucas.

Day one saw the team gather in Enfield, North London for a commemorative group photo just after 7am. With 100 miles ahead, riders set off travelling through the heart of London and then South of London before heading north to the overnight basecamp. Along the journey participants encountered iconic views across the capital and scenic views of Surrey before making their way to the unmistakable Royal Ascot racecourse. Basecamp provided a great opportunity for participants to relax and recharge after a likely sore day! To keep spirits high, participants were treated with the Dulux Trade bar, massages, a photo-op with the Dulux dog and much more. Food and celebratory drinks were thoroughly enjoyed!

Select Decorator Martin Connor stated, "The hills were particularly hard but meeting different people along the way made time go quickly. The camaraderie was funny at times and the food was great! Sleeping in a small tent close to each other is not the best experience I've had of camping, but crossing the finish line was quite emotional. I received fantastic support from everyone."

As day two approached, the team were again met with glorious weather! After a robust breakfast for a much needed refuel, participants left the renowned Royal Ascot racecourse to conquer the remainder of the challenge; enduring a further 89 miles! Riding across Maidenhead into the rippling 'Chilterns', participants relentlessly overcame the incline of the tough countryside hills. Finishing the circular route of London and its suburbs, riders crossed the finish line ending up at the original starting point in Enfield. As day-two came to an end, it was fantastic to see the Dulux Trade team members overcome with achievement. All money raised will be going to the Outward Bound Trust, an educational charity that does fantastic work with youngsters from all kinds of backgrounds.

Dulux Select Decorators Team Member, Sam Lucas said, "This was my second year taking part in the London Revolution cycle ride and with Dulux Trade as the main sponsor, it was fantastic to see the team grow from the previous year. The challenge is certainly still tough but the event is not about competing, it is about the taking part and enjoying the whole event with a diverse range of people. Congratulations to all the Select decorators who completed the event, I am sure they would recommend this to fellow members, as would I."

Next year will see the return of the cycle event, with Dulux Trade again being the main sponsor. If this is something you would like to get involved in, stay tuned as more details will be released later in the year. Finally, congratulations to all members who took part; a fantastic achievement for a great cause.
