Dulux Trade's di-vinyl intervention at St Boniface
When a Southampton church needed a major internal redecoration, they turned to a Contract Partner and to Dulux Trade products
Since 1927, the new Romanesque-style church of St Boniface has been a landmark of the Shirley area of Southampton. Designed by architect Wilfred C. Mangan of Preston, and built by local firm Jenkins and Son, its red brick church and bell tower is a prominent feature on Shirley High Street.
When the local diocese wanted to undertake a complete internal redecoration of the church, they turned to a local Contract Partner and to Dulux Trade products to complete the job.
Eastleigh-based Martin G. Burt Ltd were established in 1983 and carry out both residential and commercial decorating work. The company was invited to work on the church redecoration, and the project incorporated the cleaning, preparation and painting of multicolour ceilings, walls and beams. The project specification was prepared by AkzoNobel decorative coating specifier Joe Ellis and all work was completed using Dulux Trade Vinyl Soft Sheen.
"The church is of an interesting design, and has a distinctive slender tower ending in an octagon with a tiled cap." It was described by David Lloyd (Building of England: Hampshire and the I.O.W.) as "expansive neo-byzantine".
The project took five weeks to complete, and the clients were delighted with the outcome. Chris Barber, area property administrator for the Portsmouth Diocese, said:
"Martin G. Burt Ltd were responsible for a major project to redecorate the interior of St. Boniface Catholic Church. The work was carried out to an excellent standard within the agreed timescales and I would be happy to recommend this contractor for similar major projects."
