Dulux Trade is celebrating after picking up the prestigious Sir Peter Parker Award at the 2012 Business Commitment to the Environment (BCE) Leadership Awards for its Vinyl Matt White coating. The company scooped the top prize of the night after judges were impressed with its use of advanced technology to create a formulation which has a reduced environmental impact.
Following extensive research and development, the new Vinyl Matt White coating contains 15 per cent lower embodied carbon and has a 20 per cent reduction in water compared to its predecessors. In sales from the first quarter alone, these improvements have helped save 15,000 litres of water, 77 tonnes of waste and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 600 tonnes. At the same time however, the coating has still delivered the opacity, coverage, application and finish standards that customers expect.
"At AkzoNobel, we're really passionate about driving positive change in the paint industry, and making a genuine difference to the environmental performance of our products is at the heart of this," said Susan Kendall, Sustainability Director at AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK & Ireland.
"In line with this approach, it's a fantastic achievement to win the Sir Peter Parker award for the reformulation of our Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt White paint. The coating is one of the most used products within our trusted core portfolio of paints, so by improving its environmental performance, we've been able to help our customers improve their impact with ease, and ensure our investment has the greatest positive effect."
Founded by Sir Peter Parker in 1975, the BCE Awards scheme is one of the world's longest running environmental competitions. AkzoNobel, the latest recipients of the BCE's highest commendation, join the likes of ASDA, Unilever and Rolls-Royce in receiving recognition from the award organisers.
