HM Revenues and Customs (HMRC) has revealed a new range of book-keeping apps for smart phones which should make it easier for small businesses, such as painters and decorators, to keep track of what they owe the taxman.
The Chancellor, George Osborne, recently said that businesses below the £77,000 VAT threshold will soon have less financial requirements to worry about, and this move is the next step in the Government's ambition to help small businesses by easing their book-keeping obligations.
With more and more business owners using smart phones as part of their daily working routine, HMRC has recognised that the devices could be used to help them maintain good records on the move. It has worked with the Business Application Software Developer Association to make the apps, which will let small-businesses keep up to date with their records more simply, as well as letting bosses access HMRC guidance wherever they are.
Treasury Minister, David Gauke MP, said: "The apps can help SMEs feel more confident about their record-keeping and provide a direct link to the business's finances, freeing up time which can be better spent on the day-to-day running of the business."
