When completed, the new Cornwall Hotel Spa and Estate at Tregorrick is destined to be one of the region's most exciting attractions. Set in 43 acres of historic park and woodland, the development to transform the Grade II* listed country home and its grounds into a multi million pound hotel and spa, is utilising only the best in materials, design and workmanship. To fit in with the stringent and sustainable specification brief, products from Sikkens are being used throughout.
Timber frame manufacturer, Frame Homes UK is responsible for constructing 60 lodges in the grounds, staged over three phases. With the first stage set for completion in April 2009, the lodges grace the estate which was formerly owned by the local Coode family. For the exterior wood detailing of these luxury and top quality lodges, Sikkens Cetol BL21 plus and Cetol BL31 woodstain system has been specified. With exemplary credentials in woodcare, Sikkens is synonymous with protection, quality and long lasting durability for all wood requirements.
"We chose the Sikkens option for its environmental credentials, particularly its long lasting water-borne formulation and its durability," comments Neil Stevens, Operations Director at Frame Homes. "This fitted in with our requirements for sustainability and environmental consciousness. The range also offered the correct colour spectrum that we needed." The chosen Sikkens system is quick drying and benefits from low odour whilst maintaining excellent absorption into the timber for optimum protection against weathering and UV damage.
The aesthetic appearance of the lodges was a vital part of the project which is being managed by architects, AWW. The local environment and the existing country house which dates back to the nineteenth century, were key influences in the colour scheme.
"Greys were very predominant in the choice," continues Neil. "This is influenced by the amount of distinctive Cornish slate on the premises, and the Western Red Cedar cladding that we have used on the lodges, which when weathered naturally, turns grey. The Sikkens palette of colours allowed us to the match the coating to complement these tones perfectly."
The entire complex has been designed to transform the estate into a world class hospitality venue, with stables converted into a Clearing Spa with sauna, infinity edged pool, steam room and gym. The development is expected to be completed within 18 months, when the £30million venue will be open to an eager public. As one of the area's most prestigious and luxury developments, the Cornwall Hotel Spa and Estate exudes quality - using the Sikkens products to coat the timber frame lodges in the grounds both internally and externally assures long term durability and lasting natural beauty for the timber content.
